FACILITY THEATRE ANNOUNCES CASTING FOR DAVID LANG’S “THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL PASSION”
Edes Foundation Prize Award Winner dado will direct
(Chicago, IL) – Facility Theatre is proud to announce casting for David Lang’s 2008 Pulitzer Award winning “The Little Match Girl Passion” to be directed by dado as part of winning the prestigious 2017 Edes Award. The cast will include Emmy Bean, Erin Carney, Sam Farmilant, Sarah Thompson, Ryan Strand, Alfredo Jimenez, Daniel Kazenel, and Zachery Angus with musical direction and sound design by Alex Monroe and John Corkill of beyond this point.
“The Little Match Girl Passion” is David Lang’s Pulitzer Prize winning musical composition based on the Hans Christian Andersen story, "The Little Match Girl". It tells the story of a poor child whose abusive father forces her to sell matches on the street on New Year’s Eve. Shoeless, sick and nearly delirious, the girl freezes to death. Her body is found the next morning. It premiered at Carnegie Hall in 2007.
dado is the 2017 University of Chicago Awardee of the Edes Foundation Prize and this production marks the fulfillment of that award. She is an acclaimed theater practitioner and visual artist in the Chicagoland area. She is an ensemble member of A Red Orchid Theatre and resident director for Facility Theatre, who recently received acclaim for her re-staging of A Red Orchid's “Simpatico” at the McCarter Theatre.
Founded in 2014 by Chicago percussionists John Corkill and Alex Monroe, beyond this point is a percussion-based collaborative ensemble that aims to engage diverse audiences through its exploration of resonances across mediums and practices, including music, theater, movement, media/film, sculpture, and environmentalism among others.
