Definition: Ethos is the guiding belief that characterizes our community.
We acknowledge and affirm that systems of White Supremacy, colonialism, and oppression have affected the way we do our work. We are committed to righting these wrongs through active measures of education, outreach, and initiatives to continue the collective work of Anti-Racism in the theatre community.
Practice
Definition: Practice is behavior that is informed by our ethos
To exist as a welcoming and inclusive space by making sure our artists’ access needs are met.
To resist implicit bias and nurture and investigate anti-racist values and practices.
To consistently seek harm prevention and relationship repair in company structure.
To uplift the stories of marginalized groups (global majority).
Develop transparent season selection process
To expand access to theatre through anti-capitalist practices.
Support
Definition: Actionable ways to give assistance to/enable our practice to function.
Completing and clarifying the Facility Guidebook to structure our anti-racist practice.
Establish an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (E.D.I.) committee to structure and progress the anti-racist work of the company through evolving action items, current priorities are:
Developing a transparent and equitable season selection process to uplift a diversity of stories and allow entry of a variety of different artists into the process
Safely engage with community through the Art For Theatre’s Sake community art show
Diversify our artistic community through a BIPOC focused reading series aimed at uplifting underrepresented voices
Gratitude and acknowledgement to Nicole Brewer’s Anti-Racist Theater Training, (LOCT Goodman Training), and Josephine Kearns’ Trans-Inclusive Casting Workshop for language inspiration, process references, and structural training.
